After completing his studies to become a certified electrical engineer and certified industrial engineer, Martin Bütikofer went on to work for the American company Reliance Electric AG in Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom.
He then became Head of the Office for Public Transport in the canton of Zug. In this role, he initiated and implemented the Tarifverbund Zug and the Stadtbahn Zug, among other projects. After joining the Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees (SGV), he became Director and oversaw the establishment of the company’s in-house shipbuilding division “Shiptec” and the catering company “Tavolago”. In 2005, SBB AG appointed Martin Bütikofer as Director of Regional Transport on the Passenger Transport Board of Management in Bern.
Since 2011, he has been Director of the Swiss Museum of Transport, overseeing the development of Switzerland’s largest and most visited platform dedicated to the topic of mobility. He also serves on the boards of various companies in the public transport, industry, and tourism sectors.
In his spare time, the father of three grown-up children travels to distant countries as a photographer. On these occasions, he enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience as an expert.
