Preliminary estimates suggest that the canton of Basel-Landschaft has considerable theoretical potential for geothermal energy: It could potentially meet between 10% and 100% of future comfort heating demands – an important contribution to climate-friendly heating in the future.
Based on these findings, the canton is aiming to develop a comprehensive exploration and financing strategy to utilise the geothermal potential.
In addition to the geological analysis, an economic assessment of geothermal energy is required.

At the same time, it drew up an initial outline for a potential exploration and financing strategy, considering suitable funding instruments for developing geothermal resources in the Basel area.
